Apparently the SBA Had Major Email Issues Affecting EIDL Applicants — Here's The Scoop
Recently we heard from multiple SBA customer service representatives about an issue they experienced with their email system resulting in lost and unanswered emails and email attachments, which consequently affected countless EIDL applicants. Here's what you need to know.
SBA Lost Sensitive Emails and Attachments
In December of 2021, the SBA experienced a flood of applications and attachments ahead of the December 31st deadline for new EIDL applications. This caused issues for their email system that resulted in lost and unanswered emails and email attachments. Many emails sent to the SBA during this time were not received. The SBA has since rectified the issue.
EIDL applicants are required to send in various forms and documentation as part of the EIDL approval process. Some of the required information includes the following:
- 4506-T. The 4506-T form is used by the SBA to request your tax transcript from the IRS. This transcript is then compared to the tax information you provide.
- Federal tax returns. In addition to the 4506-T, applicants must submit their federal tax returns so the SBA can verify their information.
- Schedule of Liabilities. Another required form is Form 2202 Schedule of Liabilities. This lists all of the business liabilities such as mortgages, loans, other account payables.
There are numerous documents EIDL applicants must provide to the SBA, but these are three examples that might have been lost in those emails – all of which contain sensitive information.
What You Should Do If This Affects You
If you sent an email to the SBA or your SBA loan officer in December, there is a chance that it did not go through. Also, if you have been asked to provide information to your loan officer that you sent in December, this could be the reason – because they never received it.
The best course of action is to upload your documents directly through your EIDL portal. This is a safe and secure way to send your required documentation. If you do not have the ability to use or access your EIDL portal, the next best option is to email them – again – to your loan officer.
You may also email your documents to DisasterCustomerService@sba.gov. This is an alternative email at the SBA and may result in your documents being uploaded faster.
