How to Track Your Stimulus Check with USPS
Although millions of Americans have received their stimulus checks, there are many more waiting. If you are one of them, you're probably wondering when you can expect your Economic Impact Payment in your mailbox. You can check the status of your payment with the IRS, but once the check is mailed it is out of the IRS' hands. That's when it becomes the purview of another American institution: the U.S. Postal Service. Luckily, that doesn't mean you just have to wait! You can use the USPS' Informed Delivery service to track your mail, including your stimulus check.
How to Set Up Informed Delivery
Informed Delivery is free and available to many P.O. boxes and personal addresses around the country, although some multi-unit buildings are not eligible for Informed Delivery and it is not available for businesses. To check if you're eligible, just go to the Informed Delivery page and click "sign up for free". If your address is eligible, you will be able to continue.
From there, you'll accept the terms and conditions and continue on to create a username and password. Lastly, you'll need to verify your identity--you can do that via your phone, or have a code mailed to you.
Once your account is verified, it will be set up in three days and you'll be able to get notifications about all your mail, including your long-awaited EIP check.
How Informed Delivery Works
Informed Delivery modernizes the mail process by using the USPS' mail sorting equipment. As letters go through the sorter, it creates a digital image of them, which Informed Delivery then passes on to you.
Once your account is set up, you will get an email every day that mail is delivered (Monday Through Saturday) if you'll be receiving any, along with a greyscale image of the letters.
Informed Delivery even has an app for iPhone and Android that will send you notifications about your mail. Cool right?
